Hello, I'm Valdo 🙋🏾‍♂️

I'm a computer engineering graduate originally from Tete, Mozambique, now based in Portugal, where I completed both my bachelor's and master's degrees. I recently finished my master's in Computer Engineering with a thesis grade of 19/20, and I'm now actively working in the IT industry. My interests lie in backend development, and I'm dedicated to honing my skills in this area. Outside of work, I enjoy working out, cooking whenever time allows, and gaming. I'm eager to continue applying my knowledge and skills to contribute to the tech industry.

Humanizing ATS-Based Recruitment Using LLMs and Human-in-the-Loop Oversight
April 22nd, 2026 15 minutes read

Application Tracking Systems have evolved from simple résumé repositories into AI-driven hiring tools — but that power comes with real risks: biased training data, opaque decision criteria, and reduced human oversight. This paper proposes a human-centered approach built on three components: a job requirements validation module, a bias-trigger removal module, and a blockchain-backed dual-authorization mechanism requiring digital sign-off from qualified professionals before any vacancy goes live. Published in Systems (MDPI), 2026, co-authored with António Miguel Rosado da Cruz.

Work-in-Progress Traceability in Textile and Clothing Manufacturing: A Literature Review
June 2024 10 minutes read

A literature review examining how Work-in-Progress (WIP) traceability is implemented across the Textile & Clothing industry — from statistical process control and Six Sigma, to Industry 4.0 sensor-driven monitoring and blockchain-backed systems. The review maps existing approaches against the Acatech I4.0 Maturity Index and identifies open gaps: siloed data integration, weak sustainability tracking, and limited human-machine collaboration in decision-making. Presented at CISTI 2024 (19th Iberian Conference on Information Systems and Technologies), Salamanca, Spain.

Forecasting Short-Term Indoor Radon: A Machine Learning Approach Using LSTM Networks - IEEE Publication
August 15th, 2023 12 minutes read
Explore the realm of indoor radon forecasting in Implementing LSTM-Based Approaches for Indoor Radon Forecasting. Delving into Machine Learning (ML) techniques, this work evaluates two LSTM-based methods for predicting future indoor radon levels, crucial for managing exposure risk. The study unveils promising preliminary results, highlighting the effectiveness of the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) algorithm in providing accurate forecasts across different time windows. These findings offer insights into using ML as a valuable tool for Indoor Air Quality management, aiding in preventive measures to address health risks associated with indoor radon exposure.
